GST invoicing in Coda
Every bill Coda closes produces a document your accountant can file, not a thermal slip you have to re-enter. This is what is on it and where the numbers come from.

01Tax split per line, not per bill
Each line carries its own tax category, so a plate taxed at one rate and a bottle taxed at another are calculated separately and totalled at the end. CGST and SGST are shown as distinct amounts. IGST is applied where the supply is inter-state, and cess where it applies.
Prices can be configured tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive. Coda works backwards correctly in the inclusive case rather than adding tax on top of a tax-inclusive figure.
02What appears on the document
Your GSTIN, your FSSAI licence number, HSN codes per item, the invoice number and date, the taxable value, the tax broken out by head, and the total in words and figures. Service charge, where you levy it, is shown as its own line and is not treated as tax.
Bill rounding is applied and shown, so the invoice total matches what was actually collected at the till.
03Restaurant type sets your slab
GST on restaurant service depends on what kind of establishment you are, and Coda models that rather than assuming one rate. Standalone restaurants, air-conditioned premises and outdoor catering are configured separately.
For hotel restaurants, the room tariff decides the slab. Coda handles both sides of the Rs.7,500 line as a property setting, so it is not something a cashier has to remember.
04Bill of supply where a tax invoice is wrong
If you are registered under the composition scheme, or the supply is exempt, Coda issues a bill of supply with the required declaration instead of a tax invoice. Issuing the wrong document is a compliance problem, so the choice follows your registration rather than a checkbox someone might forget.
05A tax snapshot per order
The tax treatment applied to an order is stored with that order. If you change a rate next month, last month's invoices still show what was actually charged at the time. Your historical records do not move under you.
06The month-end report
Taxable value and tax collected, broken down by rate and by head, exportable and ready to hand to whoever files your returns. No exports to reconcile, no spreadsheet assembled from the till roll.
07Vendor bills and input records
Purchases logged against a vendor keep their bill attached, so the paperwork behind your input credits sits with the entry rather than in a folder behind the counter. Each vendor's running statement shows what is paid and what is outstanding.
08Where the responsibility sits
Coda calculates from the settings you provide. Your GSTIN, registration type, tax categories, HSN codes and tariff band are yours to get right, and we recommend your accountant confirms them during setup. We help you configure it; we do not file on your behalf and this page is not tax advice.
